Western Australia’s gold production began modestly in the late 1880s but exploded during the 1890s following the major discoveries at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. In the peak years of the early gold rush era, from the mid-1890s through the early 1900s, the goldfields around Perth and throughout Western Australia produced hundreds of thousands of ounces annually.
