In 2025, the United States Mint honors the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army with a special American Silver Eagle release. These limited-edition American Silver Eagles boast a unique privy mark on the obverse side that celebrates the importance of the United States Army to the freedom and liberty of the United States of America.
The 2025 Army Privy American Silver Eagle
The United States Mint’s Army Privy Silver Eagle is a combination of the mint’s most popular silver bullion coin and a unique privy mark struck for commemorative purposes. The release features the beautiful, well-known designs of the 1 oz American Silver Eagle with Walking Liberty on the obverse and an American bald eagle in flight on the reverse.
On the obverse side, the emblem of the United States Army is engraved as a small privy mark to the right of Liberty’s figure. The privy features a circular seal with the words UNITED STATES ARMY, with the American bald eagle at the center, clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
The United States Mint produced just 100,000 of these coins, with each one individually encapsulated and presented in a US Mint box. The box and themed outer shipper come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

History of the United States Army
The United States Army traces its origins to June 14, 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized the enlistment of soldiers to serve under George Washington during the American Revolutionary War. Initially composed of colonial militias and volunteer regiments, the Continental Army fought for independence against British forces before being disbanded after the war’s conclusion. The modern U.S. Army was officially established in 1784, though it remained a small peacetime force until the early 19th century when conflicts like the War of 1812 and westward expansion necessitated growth and professionalization.
Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the Army underwent dramatic transformations in size, technology, and doctrine. The Civil War marked the first large-scale mobilization, followed by periods of expansion during the Spanish-American War, both World Wars, and the Cold War era. The Army evolved from a primarily infantry-based force using muskets and cavalry to a technologically advanced organization incorporating mechanized units, aviation, special operations, and modern communications systems. Today’s Army emphasizes rapid deployment, joint operations with other military branches, and adaptability to diverse mission requirements ranging from conventional warfare to peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, and counterterrorism operations around the globe.
