The 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle was introduced by the United States Mint in 1986 as part of the American Gold Eagle Program, authorized by the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. As the flagship coin of the series, it contains one troy ounce of 22-karat gold. The Mint has produced proof versions nearly every year since inception, with these collector-focused coins distinguished by their mirror-like fields and frosted devices, struck multiple times for enhanced detail.

All 2026-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are available here with a protective capsule. The coins are presented in a protective box and come with a themed outer shipper. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with each coin. The 22-karat gold alloy in Gold Eagles consists of 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver. These coins feature a dual 1776-2026 date mark and a Liberty Bell 250 privy mark in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The obverse of the 2026-W Proof American Gold Eagle features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ classic 1907 depiction of Lady Liberty. Originally created for the $20 Double Eagle, this design presents Liberty in full-length, front-facing relief as she moves forward toward the viewer. Rays of sunlight extend outward behind her, while a ring of stars lines the outer border of the design. Liberty raises a torch in her right hand and holds an olive branch in her left. The U.S. Capitol Building is visible in the background at her feet.

On the reverse of the 2026-W 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle Coin is an image of the American bald eagle. Introduced to the series in 2020, this updated design by Jennie Norris depicts the eagle’s head in left-profile relief, highlighting finely rendered details throughout the portrait.
