The African Wildlife Series launched with the Zambia Elephant in 1999, marking the start of an enduring collection. Since 2004, Somalia has produced the African Elephant coins each year. This series offers both gold and silver coins, focusing on silver options in 1 oz weights and above, including a prominent 1 kilo silver coin. Today, 2025 5 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coins are available.

The gestation period for African bush elephants is the longest of any land animal, lasting about 22 months. Typically, a single calf is born weighing around 200 pounds. The entire herd is involved in raising and protecting the young, with aunts and sisters often assisting the mother in a behavior known as “allomothering.”
All 2025 5 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The 5 oz silver coins in this series are packaged in protective capsules. Overall, the Silver Elephant Series offers two coins larger than this specimen, 10 oz and 1 Kilo coins, and three coins smaller, 2 oz, 1 oz, and ½ oz silver coins.
On the obverse of 2025 Somalia Silver Elephants, you will find the national coat of arms for Somalia. The design features a crowned shield with a single star at its center and horizontal lines behind the star. The shield is supported on either side by a leopard, while spears and palm fronds cross beneath the seal.
The reverse of 2025 5 oz Silver Elephant Coins comes with an image of the African bush elephant. This year’s new design shows a mature elephant marching across the savanna in front-facing relief. The long tusks of the creature nearly reach the ground while its massive ears fill the design field. Other elements include the rising sun, a small patch of brush, and a lone tree.
