Loki’s nature is fundamentally chaotic and selfish; he fathers the monstrous wolf Fenrir, the world serpent Jörmungandr, and Hel, goddess of the underworld, and his murder of the beloved god Baldr sets in motion the events leading to Ragnarök, where he will lead the forces of chaos against his former companions.

Compared to other figures in Norse legend, Loki is associated with fewer fixed symbols, a reflection of his shifting and ambiguous role in myth.
