- Koala family in the branches of a gum tree on the reverse.
For the obverse of 2026 1 oz RAM Gold Koala Coins, the mint features a portrait of King Charles III. His Majesty is shown here in left-profile relief in a design by Dan Thorne. This is one of several first-generation portraits of His Majesty for Australian coins, and it depicts the king without a crown.
In the reverse design of 2026 Royal Australian Mint Gold Koala Coins, the design element features a family of koalas amidst the branches of a gum tree. Despite their cuddly appearance, koalas are largely solitary creatures with minimal family bonds beyond the mother-joey relationship. Female koalas raise their young alone, with joeys spending about six months in the pouch before emerging and then riding on their mother’s back for several more months while learning to navigate the trees and transition to a eucalyptus diet.
Once a young koala reaches independence at around 12 months old, it leaves its mother’s home range to establish its own territory, and adult koalas typically only interact during breeding season, with males competing for access to females through vocalizations and occasional physical confrontations.
These 2026 1 oz Royal Australian Mint Gold Koala Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The 1 oz gold coins in this series are individually encapsulated in plastic capsules, with multiples of 10 sealed together in plastic rolls.
